THE SYMPTOMS OF GOTHAM OF A GO-GO
MoMA PS1
An exhibition identity system for The Symptoms of Gotham of a Go-Go exhibition at the MoMA PS1, a project responding through a visual language of performance, queerness, and urban distortion. The project translates the energy of Gotham ( mythical NYC ) into a layered identity system built through color, rhythm, and theatrical tension.

The Symptoms of Gotham of a Go-Go is an exhibition identity project developed through a system that feels both institutional and unstable. Rather than treating the exhibition identity as a static mark, the design builds a world around motion, repetition, and visual disruption. The identity uses SMPTE color bars as a starting point, reinterpreting them through the queer flag and overlaying them with green as a dominant visual layer. But the reason chose for it was because DonChristian approach in the exhibition & after an interview, he was heavily inspired by 80s & 90s post apocalyptic themes. Therefore this was created a pattern system that feels broadcasted, coded, and performative, reflecting the tension between visibility and distortion. The project includes a primary logo designed for clarity and institutional use, alongside a secondary elliptical mark that feels more expressive and exhibition driven. Together, the system balances legibility with chaos, using typography, pattern, and color to create an identity that feels like a signal coming from the city that is theatrical, fragmented, and alive.
